The Southeastern New Mexico Historical Society was founded April 6th, 1970 by a group of 147 incorporators who held a common interest in the history of this region.

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we endeavor to collect, preserve, research, publish and exhibit objects, artifacts and documents pertaining to Southeastern New Mexico.

In addition, we seek to foster and promote the historical education and appreciation of Southeastern New Mexico to the public. We endeavor to receive grants and donations of money and historical materials from private or governmental sources.

The SENMHS acts as custodian of all historical materials placed in our custody, and we promote literary and educational objectives by holding meetings with lectures, addresses, reports, and discussions.
